BARTS AND LONDON CHARITY

adidas Women's 5k Challenge 2008

Barts and The London Charity is the independent registered charity for the hospitals of Barts and The London NHS Trust – St Bartholomew’s Hospital (founded in 1123), The Royal London Hospital (founded in 1740) and The London Chest Hospital (founded in 1848). The Charity’s mission is to raise and grant funds for pioneering projects, which aim at achieving excellence in patient care, medical research and education within the Trust.

The Charity recently supported the development of a new Paediatric Critical Care Unit which has opened at The Royal London Hospital. The hospital is home to London’s largest dedicated paediatric A&E, and treats over 30,000 young patients each year. The new Critical Care Unit allows young people to be cared for in a more suitable environment with new equipment enabling a wider range of conditions to be treated.

The Trust is also home to one of the best Cancer treatment centres in the UK. Opened in 2004, the Breast Care Centre at Barts was part-funded by The Charity and offers the latest breast screening and diagnostic technology and a hi-tech conference and teaching facility. The Centre’s attractive decor, comfortable furnishings and original art help to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and also houses a well-equipped patient resource facility offering information and advice.

The funding of health care always struggles to keep pace with the need. Over the centuries, hospital patients and other generous donors have helped bridge the gap. We still rely on the generosity of donors and have an active fundraising program which you can be part of.

By supporting us in the Adidas Woman’s 5K Challenge, you will be helping us achieve excellence in health care.
