The Blue Cross was founded in 1897 as an organisation committed to improving animal welfare. Today, our 11 adoption centres find loving new homes for more than 6,000 unwanted and abandoned companion animals (dogs, cats and small family pets) every year, giving them a new lease of life. Four veterinary hospitals, three in London and one in Grimsby , provide 80,000 free veterinary treatments annually for pets whose disadvantaged owners cannot afford private veterinary fees. In London , the service offered is extended into many deprived areas of the capital through the provision of community veterinary nurses and a mobile veterinary clinic.
